Karmaloop sale approved, CEO Selkoe to be replaced

In the end, Kanye West didn’t swoop in to buy online retailer Karmaloop Inc. and founder Greg Selkoe is on his way out as the bankrupt company’s chief executive.

A federal bankruptcy court judge Thursday approved the $13 million sale of the Boston-based online streetwear retailer to a group of senior lenders. The sale marks the end of Selkoe’s leadership at Karmaloop, a company he founded in the basement of his parents’ Jamaica Plain home in 1999.

As recently as this spring, Selkoe said he would keep his job as chief executive of the company and hinted that West was in talks to buy Karmaloop.

But the new owners, Comvest Capital of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Chicago-based CapX Partners, were the only group to submit an offer to buy Karmaloop in a bankruptcy auction process. The firms plan to replace Selkoe and install new management at Karmaloop in the coming weeks, according to Robert O’Sullivan, a partner at Comvest Capital.

O’Sullivan said Selkoe will remain involved with the company in an advisory role. Selkoe said he was “excited about the new capital coming into the business as well as my new role.”

The firms will continue to operate Karmaloop in the US and Europe, as well as the company’s Kazbah marketplace and PLNDR website, O’Sullivan said. The business will remain headquartered in Boston.

“This is a new chapter in the Karmaloop story,” O’Sullivan said. “We’ll be a debt-free business, have a new owner and the ability to put more capital into the business. We’re excited about the brand and we’re excited about owning the company.”

The first-degree murder conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole in the slaying of Odin Lloyd, a 27-year-old landscaper and amateur weekend football player who was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancee.

ISIS Has A Wacky Rap Music Video. No, We're Not Joking.

ISIS recently released a new attack video that aims to shake fear in the hearts of the 'capitalist pigs' in the west through the power of their sweet beats. The video features beheadings and torture while hinting at suicide bombers in Germany and New York City all set to a rap sound track. The video is gruesome and should be taken seriously of course, but its hard to not imagine a masked member of the terrorist organization in their multimedia wing sighing and with a heavy voice asking, "How do I reach these kids?". The video made sure to promise that a lot of pain and loss of life would be coming because that's how you let everyone know you're an Original G in the international community nowadays, apparently.

The video included subtitles in English, though had a few sections in German for good measure.

Karmaloop bidding could start as low as $13 million

The starting bid for Karmaloop Inc. could be as low as $13 million, according to court papers related to the bankruptcy case.

Karmaloop, an e-commerce company that sells men’s and women’s streetwear, filed for bankruptcy last week with a plan to sell the business in an auction. The Boston company said it was weighed down by more than $100 million in debt from ill-fated business ventures. Karmaloop said its sales declined to $80 million last year, down from $120 million in 2013. The bankruptcy filing also listed assets of $10 million to $50 million.

A group of Karmaloop’s senior lenders, led by Comvest Capital, plan to offer the initial bid, known as the “stalking horse.” Frank A. Segall, a lawyer for Karmaloop, previously said Comvest would place a modest bid to encourage other parties to participate. Documents indicate Comvest will offer to forgive $13 million in debt Karmaloop owes the company in lieu of cash.

Prior to the bankruptcy, Karmaloop hired the Boston financial advisory firm Consensus Advisors to search for potential buyers. Consensus reached out to more than 150 investors and were unable to find a buyer.

Segall said Karmaloop has been in talks with several interested parties since it filed for bankruptcy. Despite rumors, rap mogul Kanye West and entrepreneur Dame Dash have not purchased the company or made a formal offer, he said.

Karmaloop asked the court to set an auction date for May 19.

It goes on to state that beauty parlours and shops selling fashionable clothes must not be tolerated as they are both instruments of the devil designed to encourage women to spend vast amounts of money to change God's design.

The document is the first of its kind to be released by ISIS' all-female Al-Khansa Brigade and while it claims not to have been written or approved by ISIS' leadership, it provides a disturbing look at the way women living under the terror group's barbaric regime can expect to be viewed and treated."

Sam Simon:'Simpsons' Co-Creator Dies After Long Battle With Cancer

Sam Simon passed away Sunday at his L.A. home, following a long, difficult battle with colon cancer. Simon was diagnosed in 2012 and was very public that his disease was terminal.

We're told Simon was surrounded by his family when he died, and his dog. The dog was very special in Sam's life ... he was a big animal rights advocate.

The Sam Simon Foundation tells us, "For those of us who knew him, his voice will forever echo in our minds; his sense of humor will continue to make us laugh; and his compassion and generosity will continue to impact our lives."

Adding, "Sam, you will be missed by many, but there is a particular sadness among our clinic staff. We have been together for so long, and your absence will forever leave a void in our lives."

Freezing and Fighting for Aid: Syrian Refugees in Lebanon

As Syria’s civil war has raged over the past four years, more than a million refugees have fled into neighboring Lebanon. The Bekaa Valley, which serves as the main passageway between Damascus and Beirut, is now home to the largest concentration of Lebanon’s Syrian refugees.

Currently in Lebanon there is one Syrian for every four Lebanese citizens — a population growth that has created a strain on the small villages and towns that bear the responsibility of hosting the refugees. Al Marj, a small city of about 15,000 in the southern end of the Bekaa Valley, is home to a refugee camp where approximately 400 families are living.

VICE News traveled to the Bekaa Valley to see how the refugee population is faring as winter fully sets in, and found that the freezing temperatures are only one of their problems.

Baby Woolly Rhino Discovered In Siberia Is The First Ever Found

Scientists are going gaga over the recent discovery of a baby woolly rhino.

The pristine specimen of the tiny extinct rhino--the only one of its type ever found--was discovered in permafrost along the bank of a stream in Siberia's Sakha Republic, The Siberian Times reported.

"At first we thought it was a reindeer's carcass, but after it thawed and fell down we saw a horn on its upper jaw and realized it must be a rhino," Alexander 'Sasha' Banderov, the hunter who made the discovery, told the Times. "The part of the carcass that stuck out of the ice was eaten by wild animals, but the rest of it was inside the permafrost and preserved well."

Scientists estimate that the rhino--which has been dubbed Sasha--was 18 months old when it died some 10,000 years ago, according to the Times. The specimen includes the animal's wool, an ear, an eye, nostrils, and skull and mouth.

"We are hoping Sasha the rhino will give us a lot of answers to questions of how they grew and developed, what conditions they lived in, and which of the modern day animals is the closest to them," Albert Protopopov, head of the Mammoth Fauna Department at the Academy of Sciences in Sakha Republic, told the Times. "We will concentrate on the DNA, because the carcass was kept frozen and chances are high we will get a better preserved DNA. We are hoping to report first results in a week or two."

NASA Has A Wild Idea To Send A Submarine To Saturn's Moon Titan

NASA is mulling over plans to explore the seas of Saturn's moon Titan, and the possible mission seems like something out of a sci-fi movie.

Titan's surface is covered in vast lakes, rivers, and seas of methane. To discover what secrets lie within these extraterrestrial bodies of liquid, NASA has developed a concept for a submarine that would explore Titan’s largest northern sea, Kraken Mare, which is comparable in size to the Great Lakes.

A new video animation (above) of the concept, which was developed for the space agency's Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC) Program, was posted to YouTube on Feb. 3--and it sure is wild.

The proposed submarine would collect and analyze samples from under Kraken Mare's surface. As the sub would spend long periods under the surface, it would bepowered by a radioisotope generator that converts heat from radioactive pellets into electricity, similar to the Mars rover Curiosity, Discovery News reported.

Why visit Titan? According to NASA, Titan’s hydrocarbon ocean environment may hold clues about how organic compounds in the solar system evolved. And since Titan has an insulating atmosphere and plentiful liquids, some scientists think it could be hospitable to microbial life.

This mission concept is on a list of solar system exploration ideas for NASA to consider by 2040.

Anonymous Launches Cyber War On ISIS

Activist hacking group Anonymous has posted hundreds of Twitter accounts, Facebook pages and email addresses it says are tied to the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

“ISIS; We will hunt you, Take down your sites, Accounts, Emails, and expose you,” the group said in its post to Pastebin, a frequent repository for hacked content. “From now on, no safe place for you online ...”

Anonymous declared digital war on all Islamist extremists following the terrorist attack on the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo last month, in which attackers with loose ties to ISIS and al Qaeda killed 12 people.

Monday’s posting includes over 800 Twitter accounts, 12 Facebook pages and upwards of 50 email addresses. Most of the Twitter and Facebook pages appear to have been taken down by Anonymous.

Iran can prove Bin Laden was dead long before US raid – Iranian minister

Iranian Intelligence Minister Heydar Moslehi claims that Osama Bin Laden died from an illness before the US raid on his compound in Abbottabad. Iran has documents to prove it, he said.

"We have credible information that Bin Laden died some time ago of a disease," Moslehi said on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting on Sunday, as quoted by ISNA news agency.

"If the US military and intelligence apparatus have really arrested or killed Bin Laden, why don't they show him [his body]? Why have they thrown his corpse into the sea?" Moslehi asked rhetorically, FARS news agency reports.

Moslehi labeled the US raid in Abbottabad as a “PR campaign”, created to divert the attention of its citizens from domestic problems, such as the “fragile” state of the US economy.

"We believe that what the US is seeking, by dictated media programs, to overshadow the recent awakening in the region through the release of such reports," ISNA quoted Moslehi as saying.

Bin Laden was killed on May 2 in the Pakistani town of Abbottabad, north of the capital Islamabad, during a special operation carried out by US Navy Seals. President Barack Obama announced the news in a special address to the nation.

The news of “justice having been done” sparked mass celebrations in the United States and then ignited a new wave of conspiracy theories after Washington refused to release Bin Laden’s postmortem photographs, claiming that they might instigate a new wave of radicalism.
